Menopause is a natural part of aging and typically happens between ages 45 and 55, although some experience it earlier. It can also follow cancer treatment or surgery to remove your ovaries or uterus.

Menopause stages

  • Perimenopause is when your body’s hormone levels change, such as estrogen. You may notice irregular periods, mood changes, sleep issues, hot flashes, weight gain, joint pain, and more symptoms. This stage lasts 4-8 years on average
  • Menopause is when you have not had a period for 12 months. This can be hard to work out if you are using hormonal contraception
  • Postmenopause is the time after menopause. Symptoms can continue and may be affected by your health history, lifestyle, and age

Symptoms

There are more than 30 perimenopause and postmenopause symptoms, and we can help with most of them. Everyone’s experience is unique, and our research shows that around 40% experience six or more symptoms – some may last for a decade or longer.

How we support you

We provide safe and effective holistic support by combining clinical care with lifestyle guidance. Get expert help for vaginal dryness, hot flashes, mood changes, sleep issues, brain fog, low energy, joint pain, fatigue, and much more!

Remember, you don’t have to wait until symptoms are severe to seek help. You deserve to feel your best.

Healthier habits help many menopause symptoms, including weight gain, sleep disturbance, bladder problems, and joint pain. Sometimes, lifestyle changes aren’t always enough.

Hormone therapy (HT)

You can take HT if you have your period or if it has stopped. HT is FDA-approved to treat hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, painful sex, needing to pee urgently and to prevent bone loss. It can also help with:

  • Sleep disturbance
  • Mood changes
  • Joint pain

Most people notice improvements within 4–6 weeks, but your prescription may need adjusting to find the right fit.

Non-hormonal treatment

Some non-hormonal treatments may help if HT is not right for you, such as:

  • Some anti-depressants can ease mood changes and hot flashes
  • Gabapentin can also help reduce hot flashes

Yes. Continuous HT is a highly effective treatment for menopause symptoms. It’s prescribed when it’s more than a year since your last period.

There’s no set time limit for taking HT – how long you continue depends on how well it’s working, your time since menopause, side effects, and overall health.

HT and weight gain

There is no clear evidence that HT causes weight gain. Weight gain during menopause is often linked to aging, disturbed sleep, lack of exercise, and stress.

We prescribe body identical forms of estrogen and progesterone, including gels, patches, and occasionally capsules. All prescribed medications are FDA-regulated, ensuring strict quality standards for strength, purity, and safety.

While testosterone isn’t FDA-approved for hormone therapy, research supports its use for low libido for those already on HT. If you’re interested, email us at support@onstella.com to join our waitlist.

Hormone levels fluctuate constantly during perimenopause, making blood tests less reliable for determining reproductive hormone levels. We rarely need to test your hormones to identify your menopause stage. If your assessment suggests it’s necessary, we’ll recommend a blood test, but most people don’t need one to start treatment.

It’s a strong indicator that you’re postmenopausal if you haven’t had a period for 12 months. There’s no reliable hormone test for perimenopause. Bleeding patterns and symptoms are accurate indicators for people aged over 44, including:

  • Hot flashes
  • Fatigue
  • Mood changes, including low mood, anxiety, and irritability among others
  • Sleep issues
  • Problems with memory and concentration, including brain fog
  • Weight gain
  • Vaginal symptoms, including burning, tightness, dryness, painful sex, and itching
  • Urinary symptoms, including recurrent infections, needing to pee more often, and pain when peeing

Our health questionnaire evaluates all of these symptoms to guide your care.

Getting the care you deserve is simple. We make menopause care affordable and hassle-free. We accept insurance in most states and partner with major commercial insurers and smaller regional plans.

In-network costs

Our service costs depend on your insurance and if there is a deductible for menopause care. Most of our patients have a copay or coinsurance. Verify your insurance provider and coverage before scheduling a visit by completing a questionnaire.

Out-of-network costs

If you are out-of-network, you can get the care you need with self-pay – see below for costs.

Superbills

We provide superbills to submit to your insurance, and reimbursement is at your provider’s discretion. It can be as high as 80% if your plan has out-of-network benefits.

HSA/FSA

If you are out-of-network and have an HSA/FSA card, you can use it to pay in most cases.
